Falklands War
1982Argentina
United Kingdom
VictoryArgentina seized the British-held Falkland Islands in April 1982. Britain sent a naval task force 13,000 km into the South Atlantic, landed troops at San Carlos and, after battles on the hills around Stanley, retook the islands in ten weeks. The British L1A1 met the Argentine FN FAL, its close relative.
Outcome: British victory: Argentina surrendered on 14 June 1982 and the islands remain British.
