Korean War
1950–1953South Korea, United States and UN forces
North Korea and China
North Korea invaded the South in June 1950. A UN force led by the United States pushed back almost to the Chinese border, then Chinese troops entered the war and drove it south again. After 1951 the front settled near the 38th parallel into a costly war of hills and trenches.
Outcome: Stalemate. The 1953 armistice left Korea divided along a demilitarized zone; no peace treaty has been signed.
