Yom Kippur War

1973

Egypt and Syria

Israel

Victory

On Yom Kippur 1973, Egypt and Syria attacked together to win back land lost in 1967. Egyptian troops crossed the Suez Canal and anti-tank missiles took a heavy toll on Israeli armour, but Israel recovered, crossed the canal itself and pushed toward Damascus before a ceasefire.

Outcome: Israeli military victory after early Arab gains. The war led to the Camp David Accords and the return of Sinai to Egypt.
