Overview

The AKM is a modernized version of the AK-47 assault rifle designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov and adopted by the Soviet Army in 1959. Chambered for 7.62×39mm, it uses a stamped sheet-steel receiver that made it lighter and simpler to manufacture than its predecessor. It became the most widely produced variant of the Kalashnikov rifle.
