Overview
The AK-47 is a gas-operated assault rifle chambered for 7.62×39mm, designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov and adopted by the Soviet Army in 1949. Cheap to build and tolerant of dirt and neglect, it and its derivatives became the most widely produced rifle family in history.
